RE: Savannah GA
NO kidding, we love Savannah, but this move is good for my career, and it prevents more long trips to the middle east. We are giving up alot, but we are hoping it will pay out in the long run. We love the boating, and outdoor experiences we have here, as well as the RV'ing opertunities nearby (i.e. Florida).
The home we are selling, or have sold. We love living on the water, I am really going to miss the great fresh and salt water fishing.

Savannah GA
Ok, probably a strange question, or just strange because I am asking it.
We live here in Savannah GA, but we are relocating to Pennsylvania. Our house has sold rather quickly (yea, we priced it too low). We just listed it and the first two couples who looked at it, started bidding on it! Since my company hasn't found a replacement for me, they are offering to pay me Temporary Assignment Pay instead of straight per diem. This is about $3000+ a month. They will pay this until they find a replacement for me and I finally move to PA. My wife and daughter will probably go ahead and move to PA so we can purchase our next home.
I am looking for recommendations for long term campgrounds in the Savannah area. Yes, we are from here but we don't do much camping in our own town. I am leaning toward Tybee Island's offering at $850 a month plus utilities, but I was hoping for something a bit cheaper. Any recommendations are appreciated.

RE: Lake Raystown PA
I checked your route out on Yahoo Maps, seems pretty straight forward too.
Yahoo maps and my Garmin had me go from Chambersburg on 30 to PA655 to PA913 to PA3019 to PA994 and finally to PA26. There is some beautiful scenery on that route but........
Thanks again, your recommended route will be the way I go the next time.

RE: Lake Raystown PA
Thanks for the reply. I would rather drive 3x the distance than redrive the route I took today with an 8000lb boat or RV. It wasn't the time, it is the danger and wear on a vehicle that I am trying to avoid. It was nervewracking to say the least.

Lake Raystown PA
My family and I are in Chambersburg PA on a house hunting trip. During this trip, we brought our boat up to put in in winter storage. We just returned from Lake Raystown after putting the boat away for the winter.
Question: What is the best route to take to transport a boat (or RV) from I-81 to Lake Raystown.
The route the GPS took me from Chambersburg was TERRIBLE! I have never seen so many hills, mountains, curves, etc. The brakes on my boat trailer got so warm the grease started oozing out of the overflow port (I may have over filled prior to our drive up from Savannah). The locals said every way in had extreme conditions, but I figure there has got to be a better way.
Thanks,
Vincent
RE: New Ford incentives....$19,000 off MSRP!
It has been delivered. Wife is in love, as am I. The truck left Monday, and arrived Wednesday at 7pm. Not too bad.
Of course the wife suggested a quick run to the grocery store, I was happy to.
Not to start a gripe thread, but I am HAPPY with the initial fuel mileage per the lie-o-meter. Driving conservatively, we got 18mpg at 65 mph. I cannot complain since my 11 year old Expedition gets 15 at that same speed.

RE: New Ford incentives....$19,000 off MSRP!
Deal is real. I am waiting on the paperwork from the dealer, via DHL should arrive tomorrow. I am using my bank to finance $18k (4.8%), I am putting $20k down, so I am covered.
I just might be the owner of a 2008 SD KR in a few days!!!!

Use zip 77008
The Ford website listing may be slightly outdated though.

RE: New Ford incentives....$19,000 off MSRP!
Buying the truck for three reasons. Current 97 Expedition, although trouble free, has 170,000 miles, I tow a 27ft boat, and we want to sell/trade the class C for a 5th wheel.
We are headed to Okefenokee tomorrow with the class C. I guess in a few weeks we will be visiting the RV dealerships. I am still undecided on the Class C to 5er move, we will have to see.

New Ford incentives....$19,000 off MSRP!
No, not a dealer. II have been looking for a new SD KR, and I am in the process of buying one. I had to look far, but I think I found the best deal.
I found it though E-bay, but a dealer in Houston TX Tommy Vaughn Ford, is discounting all Super Duties $19,000 below MSRP. I am in the process of buying a F250 KR for $36,195, MSRP is $55,195. I guess it is a fire sale. The salesman said they had so many on the lot, not selling and so much money tied up in floor stock, they had to do something. I was worried it might have been a flood car, or similar, but the VIN checks out and it looks legit. I am having it shipped to me for $1350, but I am still saving a boat load. I can buy alot of diesel for the money I am saving.......
I realize most dealers throw BS about acting fast, but I gotta believe they are moving them now.
Just a bit of info for anyone looking..........hands off the Black KR please.

RE: Ford's Employee Pricing
This is an extremely useful tool for Employee pricing (A/Z plan, not X plan).
Ford Employee Pricing. Takes the guesswork out.

Alternator question
I am looking at new 2008 F250's. I have noticed three different alternator configs.
Standard (no option listed)
Heavy Duty Alternator
Dual Alternators
I plan on using this truck for towing a boat, with a possibility of getting a 5th Wheel. I don't plan on getting a slide in camper or anything.
Am I safe going with the standard alternator installed with the 6.4 diesel or should I search for a truck with the heavy duty or dual alternator?
Thanks.

RE: Diesel Prices Coming Down?
Lets see ....we buy crude for $138.00/barrel from the Arabs. We sell them grain for $7.00/bushel.... why not sell the grain to them for $138.00/bushel and even things out a bit?
I've been saying the same thing for years.

RE: Considering a Class C that needs some love
I bought a 94 Ford E350 28ft Winnie in 2006. It only had 38,000 miles, the interior was in GREAT condition (still had the plastic floor covering), the chassis was not so great. I budgeted the money for chassis work and replaced the ball joints, tie rods, steering stabilizer, shocks, calipers, brake pads, 6 new tires, belts, hoses, and a few other things. I also had to have the exhaust repaired (small cracks welded). I did all the Chassis work myself, just paid for the full alignment and welding on the exhaust.
I COULD NOT have driven this vehicle anywhere before doing the work. Althought the previous owner made claims of "excellent condition" and had receipts from a local RV shop for resealing the roof and genset maintenance, I was very skeptical. For example, the RV had sat so long the front brake caliper pistons had developed rust rings and had siezed. I applied the breaks and the pistons wouldn't retract. The tires were the original ones from 1994!
Since rebuilding the front end, we have driven the RV from our home in Savannah to Florida, to PA, to St Louis, to Omaha, and other locations, some multiple times since 2006. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. I even gave it to my father while here in Iraq and he used it for several trips from his home in St Louis before bringing it back to Savannah and parking it back under the car port.
I think you can do well buying a used, older Class C, but you will have to check carefully and budget money for repairs, there will be repairs. Where you can save is doing the work yourself. If you are looking for a turnkey RV, you are going to have to spend more at the initial purchase, or be EXTREMELY lucky. I would not want to be 1500 miles from home and find out then that the front end needs rebuilding, calipers are siezed, all 6 tires are rotted etc. Such a scenario or trip would ruin RV'ing for you and your family, leaving a bad taste in your mouth for a long time.
Good luck with your search.

RE: Best place to advertise tow vehicle for sale and what price?
I am currently looking for a tow vehicle myself. I have been looking at the 2008 F250's and some 2007 F250's. Why am I looking? I am hoping to take advantage of the current market. Sure fuel prices are high, but I can use a truck to tow my boat (and trade my Class C for a 5th Wheel). What I will say next may upset the original poster and many others trying to sell. I hope you are willing to take bottom dollar, and I really mean "bottom dollar". As one of the above posts stated, e-bayer's are looking for lowest price. E-Bay is where I am doing most of my searching. Auto Trader is to cluttered with dealers. Craigs list is ok for local, but since I am looking for a specific type and year range, E-bay is where I search.
Unless you are willing to take a serious loss on your vehicle, you are going to be disappointed. Search e-bay COMPLETED LISTINGS and see what some of the vehicles have actually been selling for, and what the high bids have been. Unless you are willing to deal in that range, I wouldn't waste your money putting an ad on e-bay.
Personnally I am looking for a 2007 F250 Lariat 4x4 Crew diesel with less than 25,000 miles. If I can find one for $20,000 I will buy it, if not, I will do just as well buying a new 2008 with all the discounts.
Just my thoughts.

RE: More truck/SUV plant closings
There are currently no sub-compacts made in the US (Chevy Aveo is made in Korea, dodge doesn't even have one). Ford would put itself at a cost disadvantage producing a small car with small margins in the US.
I understand and I won't argue. The fact that the American Automobile industry doesn't make small cars here in America is what bothers me. My Focus was made in Mexico. In 2002 when I wanted a small car, made in America, that is what I got.
I realize that workers at the American Auto plants want to make $30 an hour putting lug nuts on a truck (I am exaggerating, yes). I wonder if the workers who are losing their jobs will be willing to make that change and reduction in wages for a prospect of having a job?

RE: More truck/SUV plant closings
What I do think was dumb was:
the lack of re-investing profits into making competitive products (thought this has changed recently)
giving away the sedan market to the import brands
the domestics (Ford and GM specifically) never engineering their high-efficiency cars to meet US standards. So even though their product portfolios had efficient cars that were available in other markets, they couldn't be sold here.
You said it! I couldn't agree more.
Vincent
RE: More truck/SUV plant closings
What really bugs me is Ford is closing plants in the US, but OPENING a plant in Mexico.

Not a good political move, financially maybe, but just plain wrong.
